Sana Atassi
Syrian Artist
Sana Atassi (b. 1978, Homs, Syria) is a multidisciplinary contemporary plastic artist, painter, sculptor, and filmmaker whose diverse background spans fine arts, cinema, visual communication, and interior design. A member of the Syrian Fine Artists Union, she holds diplomas in Graphic Design, Cinematic Sciences and Arts, and Cinema and TV Directing, alongside a degree from the British Academy for Interior Design. Primarily focusing on the inner psychological and emotional worlds of women, Atassi utilizes expressionism, abstraction, and symbolism to navigate complex themes of love, longing, anxiety, and resilience. Her large-scale canvases—frequently rendered in acrylics and oil—are characterized by female figures with wide, profoundly expressive eyes. In addition to directing short films and working in animation, her celebrated artwork has been prominently exhibited across prestigious regional institutions and venues, including the National Museum of Fine Arts in Syria, Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts, Wadi Finan Art Gallery in Amman, and JAH Art Gallery in Beirut.
