Alaa Abou Shaheen is a Syrian contemporary artist born in Damascus in 1983. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 2006 and later worked as a Fine Arts professor in Aleppo. His practice explores satire, irony, and social commentary through exaggerated figures, animals, and symbolic characters. Working across sculpture, metal, collage, painting, and mixed media, Abou Shaheen often uses distorted forms to reflect on human behavior and societal contradictions. He currently lives and works in Paris, with his work exhibited internationally and held in collections including the Yinchuan Museum of Contemporary Art.
